Des is an Irish Australian who has spent most of his life in the Corporate world, specifically in the Information Technology field in executive roles for organisation such as Qantas, and NRMA and many more. Whilst driving back to Sydney from directing a major project for the NT Government in the Northern Territory in March 2011, Des committed his life to Christ on the Stuart Highway just south of Katherine in a picnic area called ‘King River Rest Area’.  Previous to this he had nothing to do with Christianity, in general, and Christians in particular.  Now he was a new man, with a driving disposition to serve others and help, in particular, men.

After a period of time in Sydney and Alice, Des went to live with his son, Sean, in Brisbane, and he joined Hillsong Church, Brisbane Campus where he went to Leadership College obtaining an Advanced Diploma in Ministry and became a Chaplain. During this time, Des was asked to lead one of Hillsong’s Sunday Services as Service Pastor which he led for about three years prior to resigning and moving to the North Coast NSW.

Des, driven by a passionate for helping men, established a Men’s Ministry in Queensland in Hillsong, which had never been undertaken before. At the time of leaving in November 2011, Hillsong had over 60 Men’s Groups reaching hundreds and hundreds of men with pastoral support, and engagement and encouragement and helping men to deal with issues such as pornography, substance abuse, relationships with spouses and children, depression, and suicide.  Men found camaraderie, friendship, confidentiality, openness, trust, with other men and found themselves opening up and talking about what is really going behind the surface of their lives.  They found themselves being accountable for their faith, for their actions, and in serving their God. One of the foundational aims was to draw men closer to their Lord and Saviour, with the active participation of the Holy Spirit in their lives.

Now living in Port Macquarie, Des is charging ahead with the planning of a national Men’s Ministry via Momentum, a weekly Sunday Evening national Men’s Radio Show which is planned to commence in August 2020, via Rhema 99.9 Port Macquarie, and 96.5 in Brisbane (and potentially with the Vision Radio organisation with its 600+ radio stations in the near future).
